We are thinking of doing a remodel and I just don't know where to begin. I
need cabinets, flooring, lighting, furniture... and ideas! HELP
Actually, you couldn't be in a better position. So often we don't have the opportunity
to plan our room's total outcome. Instead, we are working around
the past purchases, or decisions. The first thing you need to do is to schedule
a complete in-home consultation. We will discuss your budget, as well as your
highest priorities and, from there, will determine the ideal design
plan for your needs. Designing your room will
begin with any necessary changes that need to take place architecturally, followed
by laying out a game plan for you. Stop frowning and start flipping through
your favorite design magazines.
Do I need to have window coverings? I like a room with a simple look.
Not every window requires a window dressing. If you have an architecturally
elegant window, a decorative bay/bow, or a window framing a magnificient
view, you may choose to leave it bare. However, most homeowners find that
even the most elegant window designs benefit from some form of window treatment
- drapes provide the softening effect of fabric, as well as sound absorption
for a home with hard flooring; shutters, shades or blinds provide shelter from
glaring sun. Wth a Free home consultation, we can offer suggestions for your
room(s).
I have skylights, which I insisted we install in our home. Now I find the
heat and sun to be relentless. How can I control the light and heat?
Fixed skylights do provide light to the room below, but their lack of ventilation
also traps the homes heat. Todays skylight window treatments are numerous,
allowing you to control the amount of light you want in, while reducing the related
heat. Motorized, battery operated and manual options are numerous.
I have a 900 sq. foot condo and was thinking of painting the inside 2-3 different
colors. I have tile in the entry area, vinyl in the kitchen and carpet every
where else. Is this a good idea?
Part of what you need to consider is the amount of light you have coming into
your unit. Also, what statement do you want to make. Light colours bring life,
vitality and freshness. Dark colours draw you inward, creating sense
of privacy and nostalgia. Typically, in a small space, it is better to keep the
colour pallette, flooring and window treatments the same. As the transition area
is limited in smaller environments, an overly complex design is confusing
to the senses. I suggest simplifying, and working towards one floor covering,
one window treatment style and one wall colour.
We installed ceramic tile in our home last year. Now the house is not
only loud, but it doesn't seem as cozy anymore. What can I do?
If you have ever visited any of the old castles of England you would have noticed
that every sitting area, bedroom, library and so forth is anchored with a carpet...
Americans call them rugs. Tile and hardwood floors are a backdrop for your
area rugs to be used. The area rug provides not only space definition to
the room, but it also absorbs sound, acts as artwork and provides comfort
for your feet. Many styles of carpet rugs are available today, including
custom design, natural fibers or ready made classic floor designs. Be careful
though, don't get caught buying one from the BIG CLUB, nothings worse on the
design meter!! |
